Rishabh Pant Undergoes Knee Surgery At Kokilaben Ambani Hospital; Source Says, ‘The Ligaments May Heal Within Three-Four Months’
Rishabh Pant underwent knee surgery as he suffered two tears in his ACL and MCL in his right leg
India cricketer Rishabh Pant, who suffered multiple injuries after getting into a traumatic car accident on December 30, went through a knee surgery on Friday evening. A week after his car crashed into a divider, when he was returning home, the wicketkeeper was airlifted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
If reports by Times of India, are to be believed, Pant suffered from two ligament tears on his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right leg. For the unversed, while the ACL connects the thighbone to the shinbone and stabilizes the knee joint, the MCL runs from the inside of the upper shinbone to the inner surface of the bottom thighbone. It was reported earlier by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), that the wicketkeeper-batsmen will be under the direct supervision of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Head of the Centre for Sports Medicine, and Director - Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service. The source quoted by TOI revealed that the MCL tear can hamper his recovery.
They said, “He already had a niggle on his right knee. He was supposed to be at the NCA this week for strengthening sessions. But the torn ACL and MCL pose a difficult road to recovery for Pant. Had it been just the ACL, one could have thought of relatively quick recovery. But the MCL tear could hamper his plans. Being a wicketkeeper, role of the MCL becomes all the more important since he has to crouch and move sideways all day.” ALSO READ: Rishabh Pant Car Crash VIDEO! The TOI source further states that the 25-year-old cricketer’s primary focus is to recover before the ODI World Cup in India. While he will be going through extensive rehabilitation programmes, it can take him upto three-four months to completely heal. They concluded by saying that Rishabh plans to take “take time to get back to absolute match fitness.”
For the unversed, right before new year’s eve Rishabh’s car crashed into a divider and caught on fire when he was returning home. The cricketer sustained injuries on his back, forehead and leg as he had to break the car’s glass to get out.
